Lorie here I am from the Philippines during my avail time was able to pull up inspirational storie and your website pop up. I was so amazed with the pictures and I am so proud of you that you are continously fighting for the truth. This story you have really touches my heart because every person on the womb of the mother should see the beautiful world created by our Almighty GOD. I believe that GOD will guide you just continue to be strong and have strong faith to him. You have been one of my inspiration right now and I am sharing you websites to my friends here.
I HAVE HEARD OF THE PICTURE BEFORE.BUT THIS MORNING A 3:30AM WHILE LISTENING TO AN EXCERPT OF YOUR STORY THAT I WENT TO YOUR WEBPAGE AND SAW THE PICTURE FOR THE FIRST TIME. GOD DID USE YOU FOR THE PICTURE. I PRAY THAT IT CHANGE MY OPINION ON ABORTIONS. I BELIEVE THE DECISION IS BETWEEN GOD AND THE WOMAN. I SOMETIMES WONDER WHAT I WOULD DO IF I HAD AN UNPLANNED PREGRANCY.
When I first heard what abortion was, as a child, I was horrified. I agree with you when you say I’m sorry people DON’T hurt when they think about abortion. Music was always a huge part of my life. I play several instruments and I sing. When I heard about the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, it hurt me so badly that I couldn’t listen to music for several years, because every time I did, I would cry for all the babies that never got to hear music. Eventually, I was able to get past that point. When a man I didn’t know tried to deceive me into having an abortion, I had horrible nightmares for months afterward. Nowadays, whenever a woman decides to give her baby life after considering abortion (which happened today), I cry tears of joy. Abortion is a disgrace; it is a horrible assault on women, striking much deeper than a rape, into the core of her being. We were designed by God to protect our children, and it is a travesty whenever anyone deceives a woman into abortion, or coerces her, which has happened to millions. Keep on doing what you are doing. God will vindicate you.
First off, I am so excited to tell you that you are an inspiration to me. Thank you for standing up for what was RIGHT. As an actress recently said, (and I paraphrase) sometimes standing up for what is right isn’t popular. But, sir, we don’t have to be popular with the world… GOD will read our hearts and HE is all that matters.
I would like your permission to use the photograph on my blog. I have included the site with my information. I do not under any circumstances want to violate your copyright. I DO, however, want to use this picture to reach out to friends and strangers alike. Of course, the information that will be included with the picture will be from your website and I will have direct links to both your picture site and this testimony.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I am praying for you! Thank you for taking this photo and for standing up!!

Yesterday while sorting some unopened mail I came across an announcement about you speaking at Crossings Paths Spring Banquet,4-24-09. I am on their mailing list and may have come if I’d have read it earlier. The story behind the picture touched me deeply, you experienced the presence of God in that moment and catured it for the world. Thank you.
I have been praying for the unborn since I was a child and was active in the pro-life movement when Roe vs. Wade first took place.It is a tradegy that our once great country sees no sin in the destruction of “our most helpless and innocent in what should be the safest place on earth, their mother’s womb”. P.S. I also noticed you ( like myself) were interviewed on Crossing Paths but it isn’t on the air yet. I look forward to watching your testimony when it’s available.
May God bless you and all your wonderful efforts to help the unborn. As you say we must forgive all our enemies including those who have abused us and the unborn babies as well. We must work together to help save our babies as we pray for the conversion of their enemies and ours. Only love will conquer hate and evil. Here is one of many prolife poems I’ve written which I want to share with you and as many people as possible. I’d like to share more with you and I’ll also send some to Dr. Bruner with a caring letter.

Michael – thank you for your work, and brilliant photograph. It is perfectly obvious by the photo that the child’s hand is not just placed over the surgeon’s finger, you can see the flexing of the grasp – the holding tight. I am Catholic, and greatly disappointed in Vanderbilt University’s (a catholic college) response to you and your work. God Bless – The Truth Sets Us Free
I hope this is the right person. I am a preacher and author. I have written a book on abortion and was encouraged to use the picture of Samuel as the final page. Are you the one I need to talk to? My website (erhardtpublications) will show you that I have written other books for the cause of Christ. This is a labor of love, it is not about the money. Thanks.
I believe the Family News from Dr. Dobson in April 2000 was the first time I saw the picture and read the story, and I knew that I would never forget it. As you know, I’m hoping to get that picture and story out across my state. These blogs of how you are ministering to others, and how you have been ministered to, are indicative of a Sovereign God who chose you, before the foundations of the world, to be His child and to be in His service in this way. And isn’t it just like God to use another’s physical healing to bring you and others spiritual and emotional healing?
I’m just a “small” person, but for what it is worth, I believe you. I believe God allowed this unique event because He had a much bigger plan. But just like in Jesus’ day, even though He allowed many miracles as signs to the unbelieving, the pious Pharisees (religious leaders of His day) rejected truth, and as Jesus said, they would be worse off than in the beginning, but by His miracles, many came to repentance. God will use this miracle jus the same! )
I learned long ago that “Time tells the story on everyone.” God is not the great “I WILL BE” but the great “I AM”. Might all that He is, and all that you are in Christ, sustain you until “Time tells the story.”
The LORD bless you with the hope of His calling, and keep you rooted and grounded in love; The LORD make His face to shine upon you with a zeal for good works to turn many to righteousness, and be gracious to you to turn suffering into the power of God’s love. The LORD lift His countenance upon you that you will have the fullness of joy in His presence, and give you the peace that surpasses human understanding and overcomes all fear.
I have faith God is not done with this picture, or you for that matter, just yet. Please keep on trying, and praying, and I will pray for you too.
I was thinking that maybe since you have met Samuel’s mom, that you could talk to her, and maybe do a publicity thing, where you would have the picture you took of his hand reaching out, and then take a picture of his hand now, and start an “email chain”. Sure there is a chance info would get messed up again, but if you watermark it with your site address, than they could come and read the real story.
Then maybe you could pick a local news station, and we (your supporters!) could storm the station with emails, letters, phone calls, etc, and ask (maybe beg a bit!) to get the story from your point of view on the news. (You’d be surprised what local news can do. A story aired on locally on horrible case of child abuse resulting in death, was uploaded to youtube, and now their are four pages dedicated to her on myspace alone!)
Please keep us updated, Mr. Clancy, I want to know how things are going, and if you find any info on this “gag order”. Maybe you could create a blog with all the “little things” that happen towards getting the word out, so that people could subscribe to it, or maybe just send out a newsletter every so often.
Michael-
I love what you are doing to be active in pro-life issues. I am a college and student and feel like I am one of a few that are against abortion on campus. Your site is very encouraging.
I have one question- did you take the picture for Sarah Marie Switzer, the other baby who reached her hand out? I saw a video that showed that picture and said you had taken that one. I wondered if this is correct, because I could find nothing to verify this on the internet and thought they could have possibly gotten the wrong name.
Thanks,
Becca
Michael,
I like what you said when someone told you they’re sorry you’re in pain and you said you’re sorry that they aren’t. That is how I feel, only I’m afraid I’m not so kind about it, as I want to scream at people, especially in Church, and ask how they can seem not to care. With the election of Obama I’ve gone into sort of a depression because it’s clear to me that if people who call themselves Christian wouldn’t have voted for such a pro-abortion person, then he wouldn’t have been elected. Sometimes I don’t know how to bear the pain of knowing babies are being slaughtered. I feel like I’m going crazy because of it, and perhaps I have. In my heart I’ve let God know that I wondered if anyone else feels about this as I do, and this morning I heard you being interviewed about the picture, and I read your testimony, and I know God showed your story to me. Thank you. I seriously don’t know but that I might die of a broken heart.
Hidden with Christ in God,
Mary
I am so shocked by this, I can’t even express it. I will pass your story on to others. I hope this story will help people to realize what a lie abortion is. Thank you for the amazing photo!
Diane,
Thank you!!!! Wow, the kids in your classes were in elementary/middle school when I took the picture. I just answered an email from one of your students. You have blessed me! It was very difficult to expose the events of my childhood. I learned the hard way how important forgiveness is. If my experience could help someone else, it’s worth everything I’ve gone through.
His Servant and Yours, Michael
Michael,
I teach college composition classes at several Catholic colleges in PA, and I occasionally use your photos and story for my reading-response assignment. I did it for the first time several years ago, and the response was great. I just assigned it again, and I am enthralled at the fire and fury that has engulfed this class. Perhaps it was my reading of your story that ignited their response; perhaps this is simply an unusually impassioned group of young people. In any case, I feel that your story serves so many different purposes–more than you might even be aware of–and I am happy to know that you are still championing the cause of the unborn.
Dear Dr. Paschall,
Thank you so much for posting on this public forum. I will answer you here since you have made that choice.
Your statement:
“I have been very strong in my church which is very fundamental and resent your implication that I threatened you. You need to tell the truth and only the truth and let that stand for itself. ”
My response:(by,Michael Clancy)
Let me remind you of your last email to me:

Subject: Re: Message from Web Site
No Michael,
You do not know what you saw and I wil go forward with Dr.Bruner thru
Vanderbilt legal channels if you do not change the story which is entirely
inaccurate. Factually that did not occur and I will not agree to disagree.
Ask Dr. Bruner. I had been in on at least 2 shots that were staged prior to
your photdocumentation. It did not happen as you seem to think and must be
corrected. Ask Dr. Bruner to respond and he will give you the facts. I am
now convinced you were deceived because our team knew the event and I am
sure presumed you would also.
I will not agree to disagree, because this is a factual dispute with
objective evidence not subjective.
This is a bigger matter than you perceive, drop the exaggeration or hire a
lawyer because it is an absolute inaccuracy as written. The picture is
great, the story is not.
Ray Paschall M.D.
Dear Dr. Paschall,
This is a threat, “This is a bigger matter than you perceive, drop the exaggeration or hire a
lawyer”
You may not perceive that as a threat, but, I do.
The Vanderbilt photographer you call, “Ann Dyer,” is actually Anne Raynor. It is my understanding that she was on vacation when Samuel’s surgery took place and was furious when she found out that I was able to grab a picture that scooped the Life Magazine picture of Sarah Marie Switzer. It is also my understanding that subsequently, she and Dr. Bruner posed very similar photographs to mine, of Samuel reaching out, to downplay my photograph. Yes, her pictures were much more dramatic because they were posed. But, she only copied my picture of Samuel reaching out. I would like to add that her shooting those images was copyright infringement. It is an infringement to copy published work. Max Helweg shot his picture before I shot the picture of Samuel reaching out, but, the picture of Samuel reaching out was published and copyrighted first.
You’re next comment, “I have been there for all the cases and know that no fetus has ever reached out and grasped a hand of a surgeon. Absolute fact.”
Let me remind you of a previous email where you stated, ” I have missed maybe 5 surgeries for various reasons out of all our series.”
You also stated that you were not present for Samuel’s surgery.
I never changed my story in response to what I considered your threats and I’m still waiting to hear from lawyers at Vanderbilt. I welcome any opportunity to tell my story in a Court of Law.
Blessings, Michael Clancy
I took you to task for the inaccuracy of your photograph and your selling of it on the internet. I am Christian, tithe and believe strongly that what I do is God’s gift to help the children. I have been very strong in my church which is very fundamental and resent your implication that I threatened you. You need to tell the truth and only the truth and let that stand for itself. The Life picture I saw staged by Max Aguilera Hellweg who has his own web site and is now also a doctor as a result of his inspirations in photographing medical events around the world (http://maxaguilerahellweg.com/)
I have seen Ann Dyer stage that same scene over and over. I have never been able to find the circulating nurse that you claim verified your version of the story which is that a spontaneous reaching out occurred. No one has ever seen that happen who has been in our OR.
Just to be sure that you understand where I stand on tangentially discussed issues in this topic, I was called as an expert witness in the partial birth abortion trial in Dayton Ohio where I took the stand against the practice of partial birth abortion. My testimony is on record. I was recently interviewed by the New York Times and came across as non-traditional because I believe a fetus can feel pain and needs anesthesia to tolerate surgery. All the fetuses that have had spina bifida repair have had profound anesthesia and it shows on all their vital signs measured. I know 2 cases where I thought the fetus moved in response to Dr. Tullipan which was early in our efforts and we just doubled the anesthetic all subsequent fetal cases received. There has been zero movement since.
I have been there for all the cases and know that no fetus has ever reached out and grasped a hand of a surgeon. Absolute fact. You cannot challenge me for how I practice this specialized medicine and I doubt that you have anything on me pertaining to strength of faith and belief in God. It is fine for you to present the case for believing in God and believing in miracles because I do also. Do not put forth the case that Vanderbilt would threaten you for that reason, understand that we stand on what we do as ethical and for patient purposes which is not what you do when you sell pictures with a false implication of what happened. Come talk to anyone who has been there all the time and find anyone who ever saw movement. You will not and it did not happen on your single, solitary visit. Please continue to proclaim the goodness and greatness of God and continue your work to right the wrongs of society misguided, that I will always support. Please don’t sell a postcard which was the inspiration of someone else and staged with the suggestion that it was spontaneous. That cheapens our work and we have the patient as our foremost and only interest.
Dear Michael,
Three years ago, I endured the death of my baby granddaughter who was just 1 1/2 pounds at birth and lived for 19 days. As tiny and ill as she was, she still fought to live. I know that there are millions of healthy, bigger babies who die every day at the hands of abortion doctors. Thank you for your commitment to these precious little souls who now live with our Lord.
Blessings,
Lisa
Hello Michael,
You will be glad to know that your photos are still reaching new eyes. My brother sent them to me today and I researched you and found this blog. I felt the need to say something to you about your obedience to God and willingness to allow HIM to guide you (and your camera). However, your words are confirmation to me about the importance of change and the ripple effect it causes in our lives. The most profound statement you made on this site was ” being forever scarred, but not reliving it everyday.” Peace has that affect. Thank GOD for peace of mind and spirit. God has worked a wonder in your life and I am blessed to me a witness to it.
God Bless you!
Sheara
Thank you so much, Michael, for your photography, your blog, and your transparency. I saw your photo years ago, but God just recently gave me a burden for the unborn and their mothers, so I just found your website today. I am emailing you privately with a request.
Michael,
I just read you testimony. Now I know why I pray for you and my heart cry’s out to God for you. Our stories are alot like. I will not stop praying for you.
Eloise,
Thank you so much. God said we must forgive to receive His forgiveness, because it will destroy us. I speak from experience. I am so sorry for your daughter, and your loss. I will forever be scarred, but now I don’t re-live it every day. I am at peace. Bless you both, Michael
Dear Mr. Clancy. I was listening to A.F.R a short time ago. Your pictures have just been viewed and history just read on the compluter. Perversion by a neighbor has touched the life of my daughter as a child, and I lost a baby at two months due to my illness at the time. I want my daughter to read your testamony, and I truly believe in the power of forgiveness, and the power that Our Lord has in our lives. Thank you so much for sharing your story. God bless Eloise L. Schleck
Thank you so much Nora, a highlight of my trip to Washington DC, to witness the President sign the Ban of Partial Birth Abortion into law was, immediately after I left the building I noticed Dr. Dobson standing with a group of men and I went up and introduced myself. I thanked him for the exposure Focus on the Family gave the picture. He was so excited to meet me. I will never get over it! Dr. James Dobson was excited to meet me! God has done so many amazing things in this story.
We will see what it finally takes for the masses to stand up for the unborn child. Sharing the picture is my greatest honor. Blessings, Michael C.
God has blessed you! Thank you for sharing it with all of us. Sharing sometimes is needed to make others realize they to can or NEED to speak up or just stand up. I 1st saw your picture from Dr. James Dobson. I kept it and have showed it to people. I am still amazed at how many are “shocked” or even “speechless” at the thought of “IT IS a BABY”. THANK YOU for your obedience and allowing Gods strength to come through you to tell the truth. May God continue to bless you!
Walter,
I lived most of my Life believing GOD would be OK with me not forgiving my abuser. I mean, some things are unforgiveable right? Wrong ………. by choosing not to forgive, you keep yourself in bondage. you allow the abuse to continue. It’s a hard lesson. I can thank GOD it’s over.
Bless you, Michael Clancy
Cathy,
Thank you so much for your help! And you kind words. I need all the help I can get. My prayer is that all the cards of encouragement to Dr. Bruner will bring him to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior and tell the truth about the picture. Bless you, Michael Clancy
Michael,
I heard you today on AFA. Such a GREAT testimony! The picture is so…………. God! I’m sending your e-mail address to my friends. Everyone should see this picture and hear or read your testimony. God Bless you!
I was so touched by your testimony. I was 40 years old and had been holding on to 30 years of resentment towards someone who was emotionally invasive, when I realized that the only way for me to be whole was to let go and begin to honor that person. God has done some amazing things since then. I deeply appreciate your story of your turmoil and your healing.
William,
Thank you so much for your comments. I was pro-choice when I entered Dr. Bruner’s operating room, and I was forever changed when I not only witnessed but captured on film Samuel’s struggle for Life.
Blessings, Michael Clancy
Michael
The day, several years ago, escapes my memory that I first saw the picture of Little Samuel. However, it stopped me, it brought me to an abrupt halt to what I was doing and thinking. I could not put the picture down. I began to cry, for the dynamics of this picture is so heart wrenching, so soul stirring, so spirit raising to think that the power of Almighty God could creat such a picture and also have someone there to capture it for all of history should make us all bow our knee and cry out for God’s mercy in slaughtering the unborn in the womb. This picture is worth more than ten million words in the message it brings, and the hope it points us toward for allowing those whom God is trying to protect in the womb stay safe.
I thank the Lord for putting you there to deliver Little Samuel and his story to the world.
It is no mystery why the world would try to extinguish the Light of the Truth tht the picture of Little Samuel presents. The world has been lying about the birth of Christ and His empty tomb for over 2,000 years.
As Ethel Waters used to say, “God don’t sponsor no flops.” So when Little Samuel flopped his tiny, perfectly formed hand out of his mother’s uterus and grabed the doctor’s finger the message is loud and clear. It is the still, quiet voice of God declaring that all life inside the womb is sacred and of infinite worth.
May all those who make the sacrifice to have Little Samuel presented to the public again and again be mightily blessed and encouraged by the King of kings and Lord of lords. Thank you
I believe God is doing just that…telling His truth. God bless you richly, and may He strengthen you and encourage you in the might and power of His Holy Spirit!
Thank you so much C. Thompson for the kind words, the touching poem, and the incredible sacrifice the, COF Church in Carterville, IL., made by sponsoring the USA Today ad. I don’t expect people to just believe every word I say, but to demand that the truth behind the picture be investigated and finally ……… told. Blessings, Michael Clancy
I’m one of the few from COF Church in Carterville, IL who has recently been granted permission to use your photo for an ad in USA Today (This very day 8/6/2007) Thank you!!!
I am so thankful that God has chosen all of us for “Such a time as this!”
I’ve been reading your testimony, and how touched I am! I identify.
I am thankful my Pastor has been in touch with you and for all the work you have done for the unborn. Thank you!

Please Tell Me Why?
She counted fingers, arms and legs
Each foot and every toe;
And just like a new mother would…
She touched her button nose.
So perfect and so delicate
These tiny little forms;
A picture of perfection, not
A single part deformed.
She looked upon the tiny frame
And thought about the child;
All dressed in frills and pretty bows…
And in her heart she smiled.
But then the Doctors voice brought her
Back to reality;
He patted Mom, and then he said,
“You’re fine, just wait and see.”
“I do procedures just like these
A hundred times a day;
In no time you’ll be up and then
We’ll send you on your way.”
And with his words the nurse began
To work so feverishly;
To make the room presentable
So Mom could never see.
She cleaned the area so neat
With purpose in her hands;
And gathered all the body parts
And threw them in the can.
A tiny life not meant to be
Conceived, nor brought to term;
An inconvenience to the ones
Who own the egg and sperm.
And all across this mighty land
Their blood is crying out;
For justice from the hand of God
While ignorance will shout.
“A blob of tissue, nothing more”
“A woman’s right to choose;”
But ask the nurse just what she’s seen
Then offer an excuse.
For every good and perfect gift
Comes from our God above;
Created in the secret parts
Created from His love.
For it is written in the Psalms
Within their mother’s womb;
Each child is woven perfectly
So how can you presume?
O God have mercy on us now
Forgive our foolish hearts;
And bring us to repentance so
This evil will depart.
And generations that will come
Will never have to cry;
Nor will they need to ask of You
My God, please tell me why?

Pam
Mr. Clancy,
I have faith God is not done with this picture, or you for that matter, just yet.
God bless,
Alex
Michael-
I love what you are doing to be active in pro-life issues.
Thank you,
Diane
Dear Dr. Paschall,
Thank you so much for posting on this public forum.

No Michael,
You do not know what you saw and I wil go forward with Dr.Bruner thru
Vanderbilt legal channels if you do not change the story which is entirely
inaccurate. Factually that did not occur and I will not agree to disagree.
Ask Dr. Bruner. I had been in on at least 2 shots that were staged prior to
your photdocumentation. It did not happen as you seem to think and must be
corrected. Ask Dr. Bruner to respond and he will give you the facts. I am
now convinced you were deceived because our team knew the event and I am
sure presumed you would also.
I will not agree to disagree, because this is a factual dispute with
objective evidence not subjective.
Email Dr. Bruner @ joe.bruner@mcmail.vanderbilt.edu for verification.
Hello Michael,
I took you to task for the inaccuracy of your photograph and your selling of it on the internet.
Ray Paschall M.D.

Hi Sherrie,
Thank you so much for your comment and your prayers !!!!!! You are a blessing.
Michael
Michael,
I just read you testimony. Now I know why I pray for you and my heart cry’s out to God for you. Our stories are alot like. I will not stop praying for you.
In His Grace Alone!
Eloise,
Thank you so much.
Michael,
I was so touched by your testimony.
Thank you
Michael;

Hi Michael;
I identify.

Please Tell Me Why?
She counted fingers, arms and legs
Each foot and every toe;
And just like a new mother would…
She touched her button nose.
So perfect and so delicate
These tiny little forms;
A picture of perfection, not
A single part deformed.
She looked upon the tiny frame
And thought about the child;
All dressed in frills and pretty bows…
And in her heart she smiled.
But then the Doctors voice brought her
Back to reality;
He patted Mom, and then he said,
“You’re fine, just wait and see.”
“I do procedures just like these
A hundred times a day;
In no time you’ll be up and then
We’ll send you on your way.”
And with his words the nurse began
To work so feverishly;
To make the room presentable
So Mom could never see.
She cleaned the area so neat
With purpose in her hands;
And gathered all the body parts
And threw them in the can.
A tiny life not meant to be
Conceived, nor brought to term;
An inconvenience to the ones
Who own the egg and sperm.
And all across this mighty land
Their blood is crying out;
For justice from the hand of God
While ignorance will shout.
“A blob of tissue, nothing more”
“A woman’s right to choose;”
But ask the nurse just what she’s seen
Then offer an excuse.
For every good and perfect gift
Comes from our God above;
Created in the secret parts
Created from His love.
For it is written in the Psalms
Within their mother’s womb;
Each child is woven perfectly
So how can you presume?
O God have mercy on us now
Forgive our foolish hearts;
And bring us to repentance so
This evil will depart.
And generations that will come
Will never have to cry;
Nor will they need to ask of You
My God, please tell me why?
